U.S. Bank Awards $350,000 To Florida Step Up For Students
March 1, 2012 | Orlando, Fla. – U.S. Bank made a $350,000 contribution to the Florida Step Up For Students Scholarship program. The cash contribution will fund tax credit scholarships for at least 85 economically disadvantaged K-12 students in Broward, Duval, Orange and Miami-Dade counties.
U.S. Bank representatives presented a check on Wednesday, Feb. 29, to Step Up For Students at Heritage Preparatory School, a program participant. The school is located at 6000 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, Florida, 32808.
The event began with introduction by Barbara Stewart, Ph.D., of Heritage Preparatory, followed by a musical performance by students. Doug Tuthill, president of Step Up For Students, provided information about the nonprofit organization. Afterwards, a Heritage Preparatory student talked about the experience with Step Up For Students.
Following the check presentation, Peter Fowler of U.S. Bank provided a money management lesson to students.
“The students and teachers enjoyed today’s events,” said Stewart, elementary school principal for Heritage Preparatory School. “The students especially enjoyed the money management lesson by U.S. Bank.”
The funds will be evenly distributed among Broward, Duval, Orange and Miami-Dade counties to provide scholarships for qualified low-income students in those regions.
“U.S. Bank is committed to giving back to the communities where it does business,” said John Stephens, State of Florida Manager for U.S. Bank Global Corporate Trust Services. “We’re proud to support Step Up For Students, a fine organization that helps students in need fund their education.”
