Kemper Corporation (NYSE: KMPR) is a new corporate partner with the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program, Step Up For Students, and offered the event to the students at Manatee Learning Academy as a way to encourage them to establish an interest in volunteering.

The young students had the opportunity to take a field trip to the Southeastern Guide Dogs’ campus today thanks to Kemper Corporation, a financial services company that also emphasizes the importance of giving back to the community.

“At Kemper Corporation, we see the value in building the communities where we do business by giving back. Volunteering is a part of our company culture, and we believe it benefits not only the community, but our employees as well,” said Mark Williams, Tampa office District Manager for United Insurance Co., one of Kemper Corporation’s Home Service Companies. “That is why we joined Step Up For Students. We are positively affecting children by helping their families select the best learning environment for their unique needs.”

Employees from the Kemper Tampa office joined approximately 30 Manatee Learning Academy students and their teachers and chaperones for the event. The group took a tour of the Southeastern Guide Dogs’ 23-acre campus, and then had the opportunity to take part in their “Puppy Hugging” activity, which is designed to help socialize the puppies for service later on in life.

Kemper Corporation is one of the nation’s leading financial services providers and specializes in property and casualty insurance, and life and health insurance products. What sets the company apart from others, however, is its commitment to community service.

Through Kemper’s Community Trust Bank Program, each regional office chooses a local nonprofit organization to support throughout the year. Kemper donates financial resources to each organization, and employees volunteer at least 20 hours of community service per year.

Also, as part of the Community Trust Bank Program, Mark Williams announced today that Kemper has contributed $250 to Southeastern Guide Dogs.

Kemper Corporation joined Step Up For Students this year with a $100,000 contribution, an amount that will provide over 22 scholarships for children from low-income families across the state. Through the Tax Credit Scholarship Program, which was created in 2001 by the Florida Legislature, corporations can redirect their Florida tax liability to fund scholarships for low-income children.

“We are honored to welcome Kemper Corporation as a corporate partner,” said Step Up For Students President Doug Tuthill. “It is obvious that Kemper Corporation goes above and beyond their business goals to support the communities where they do business, and we are thankful for their support. With Kemper Corporation’s contribution, more Florida students will have the opportunity to attend a school that best fits the way they learn.”

This school year, more than 60 students are able to attend Manatee Learning Academy on scholarship with help from Step Up For Students.
