Have questions about how to switch scholarship programs? We’ve put together some answers for you below.
Q: How can I switch my student from one scholarship program to another?
A: Families may request to switch scholarship programs once per school year.
Q: How does switching programs affect my student’s scholarship funding?
A: Timing is key to your student’s funding.
- If you switch before September 30:
- If no funds were used under the original program, your student may receive full-year funding under the new program.
- If some funds were already spent, your student keeps those funds and receives the remaining balance from the new program.
- If you switch after September 30:
- Your student receives half of the annual award from the original program (Quarters 1 & 2).
- The remaining half comes from the new program (Quarters 3 & 4).
All program switches require DOE approval, and total funding cannot exceed the annual award amount of the new scholarship program.
Q: What should I do before submitting a switch request?
A: Always contact Step Up For Students first. We can help you confirm eligibility, understand how funding will be affected, and make sure you’re switching at the right time.
