Have questions about accepting a scholarship you’re not sure your student will use? We’ve put together helpful answers to guide you through scholarship acceptance and possible program switches later on.

Q: My student is eligible for a 2026–27 scholarship, but we’re not sure yet if they will use it. Should we go ahead and accept it for now?

A: For the Private School Scholarship (FTC/FES-EO) or Unique Abilities Scholarship (FES-UA):
Only accept the scholarship if you’re confident your student will use it at the start of the school year. If you accept the scholarship and the Florida Department of Education later determines your student is enrolled in a public school when funding is reviewed, the scholarship will be forfeited for the entire school year.

If you’re unsure about your student’s plans, it’s best not to accept the scholarship yet. You can accept it later once your decision is final. The deadline to accept a 2026–27 Private School (FTC/FES-EO) or Unique Abilities (FES-UA) scholarship is December 15. Renewal students must accept by May 31 to keep their renewal priority.

A: For the Personalized Education Program (PEP):
The deadline to accept the scholarship is May 31. If you plan to use the PEP scholarship for the 2026–27 school year, you must accept it by this date.

Please note: If your student is reviewed for funding and is found by the Florida Department of Education to be enrolled full-time in a Florida public school, the scholarship will be forfeited for the entire year.

Q: I’ve already accepted my student’s 2026–27 scholarship, but I’m not sure if we’ll use it. What should I do next?

A: For the Private School Scholarship (FTC/FES-EO) or Unique Abilities Scholarship (FES-UA):

If you’ve already accepted the scholarship but are unsure of your student’s plans for the 2026–27 school year, we encourage you to decline it in EMA by 5 p.m. ET on June 15, 2026 (renewal students) or 5 p.m. ET on July 15, 2026 (new students).

Students whose scholarships show as accepted after these deadlines will be submitted to the Florida Department of Education for funding consideration. If your student is then found to be enrolled full-time in a Florida public school, the scholarship will be forfeited for the entire school year.

If you choose to decline now, you can still accept the scholarship later once your plans are confirmed. The final deadline to accept a 2026–27 scholarship is December 15; however, renewal students must accept by May 31 to keep their renewal priority.

A: For the Personalized Education Program (PEP):

The deadline to accept the PEP scholarship is May 31. If you plan to use the scholarship for the 2026–27 school year, you must accept it by this date.

Please note: If your student is reviewed for funding and found by the Florida Department of Education to be enrolled full-time in a Florida public school, the scholarship will be forfeited for the entire year.

Q: My student is eligible for a 2026–27 scholarship, but I’d like to switch to a different program. What should I do?

A: If you’re considering a different scholarship, be sure to take action before your student is submitted to the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) for funding. Once a student is submitted for Quarter 1 funding, they cannot switch programs until after Quarter 2.
