Wyndham Vacation Ownership Continues Commitment to Step Up For Students Scholarship Program with $750,000 Pledge

Wyndham Vacation Ownership (WVO), the world’s largest developer and marketer of flexible, points-based vacation ownership products, today announced a $750,000 commitment to the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program, which will provide nearly 140 scholarships for low-income Florida students.
WVO has been a donor and corporate partner with Step Up For Students since 2011, and this most recent pledge brings the company’s total contributions to $2.75 million.
Step Up For Students is a nonprofit organization that administers the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to qualified low-income families throughout Florida. Scholarships are funded by corporations that receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for their contributions. The program will allow recipients to choose between a scholarship to help with private school tuition and fees, or a transportation scholarship to attend an out-of-district public school.
“We are proud that our support of Step Up For Students is positively shaping children’s lives through education, and we plan to continue to strengthen our community by investing in the future of our state’s most valuable assets,” said Sarah King, Wyndham Vacation Ownership executive vice president of human resources.
Last school year, scholarships provided by Wyndham Vacation Ownership’s contributions were distributed throughout the state, but the program’s impact on their employees has made the investment even more special to company leadership, King said. During the 2013-14 school year, 53 Step Up For Students Scholarships were awarded to the children of families employed by Wyndham Worldwide, WVO’s parent company.
“As in years past, we were thrilled to learn that our own employees’ children benefited from the Step Up scholarship, and feel strongly that it is our responsibility to do what we can to improve the world around us. Our participation in this program is one example of how we are achieving that goal,” said King.
Approximately 69,000 children are using the income-based scholarships this school year.

Step Up For Students is a nonprofit organization responsible for administering the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program. The scholarship program is available to students who qualify for free- or reduced-price lunch and students who are in foster care or who are homeless. Step Up For Students also helps administer state-funded personal learning scholarship accounts (PLSA) for Florida students with special needs. With the PLSA’s, recipients may use the funds for a variety of services including private tutoring, occupational therapy, instructional materials and other services.
