Wyndham Vacation Ownership Funds Educational Opportunities for Low-Income Florida Students
September 10, 2013 – Wyndham Vacation Ownership (WVO) continues its partnership with Step Up For Students (SUFS) by investing more than $1.25 million since 2011, funding nearly 300 scholarships for low-income children in Florida. SUFS is a nonprofit organization that offers scholarships aimed at providing learning options for economically disadvantaged children in Florida.
WVO’s contributions to Step Up were distributed throughout Florida, but the program’s impact on their employees has made the investment even more special. In the current 2012-13 school year, 45 Step Up For Students Scholarships were awarded to the children of families employed by Wyndham Worldwide, WVO’s parent company. With applications now being accepted for the 2013-14 school year, WVO has been educating employees about the scholarship program so other eligible staff can apply.
“When we first participated in 2011, we were thrilled to learn that our own employees’ children were benefiting from the Step Up scholarship. As one of the core values of Wyndham Vacation Ownership, we feel strongly that it is our responsibility to do what we can to improve the world around us,” said Sarah King, executive vice president, Human Resources, Wyndham Vacation Ownership. “Step Up For Students’ mission of providing more educational options to those who need it the most truly aligns with our corporate culture and allows us the opportunity to respond to the needs of our community. We are proud that our contribution is helping to transform children’s lives through the powerful gift of education.”[/x_text]

The corporate contributions are used to fund scholarships for low-income children across the state, which provide tuition assistance to one of about 1,500 participating private schools, or funds to aid in the transportation costs associated with attending an out-of-district public school.
“Wyndham Vacation Ownership’s support of our program means that more parents will have another option when it comes to their child’s education,” said Doug Tuthill, Step Up president. “Our scholarship program is leveling the playing field by helping low-income families access the same opportunities that more fortunate families have when it comes to education, and we are thankful for our donors, like WVO, who make that possible.”
This school year, more than 50,000 students in Florida have benefitted from a Step Up For Students Scholarship.
