Centennial Bank Announces a $1 Million Contribution to Fund Scholarships for Low-Income FL Children
May 25, 2012 | Panama City, Fla. – Centennial Bank announced today it pledged $1 million to the Step Up For Students Tax Credit Scholarship Program. Representatives from the company visited scholarship recipients at Saint John Catholic School today, a local school that participates in the scholarship program, to present the contribution.
Centennial Bank’s tax redirection will provide over 223 scholarships for low-income children in Florida to attend the school that best meets their individual learning needs while receiving dollar-for-dollar tax credits for their contribution.
“On behalf of the Florida families benefitting from a Step Up For Students scholarship, we are so grateful for Centennial Bank’s support and their generous contribution, that will fund more than 220 scholarships for low-income students across the state,” said Doug Tuthill, president of Step Up For Students. “The positive impact that Centennial Bank will make through their donation is profound. We are thankful for their partnership and humbled by their generosity.”
Created in 2001 by the Florida legislature, the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program allows corporations to redirect up to 100 percent of their Florida corporate income tax to the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program.

During the 2011-12 school year, Step Up For Students awarded more than 39,400 scholarships to underprivileged students in Florida. There are 14 students who attend Saint John Catholic School with help from a Step Up For Students Scholarship.
