Step Up For Students welcomes private schools to participate in the scholarship program at any time during the school year or over the summer. In order to receive Tax Credit Scholarship funds in Florida, a private school must be in good standing with the state Department of Education and fully compliant with the scholarship compliance rule. See the rule here.
Requirements for private schools are focused on two important categories, a school’s facility and it’s personnel. The state is focused on providing a great learning environment for all of Florida’s students and asks private schools to hold itself to the standards found in rule. A school works with local agencies, such as the fire and health departments, to successfully complete inspections annually. Furthermore, school faculty and staff are fingerprinted to ensure that they are good candidates to work with young students.

After successfully complying with the scholarship compliance rule, Step Up For Students asks that school administrators contact Elizabeth Watson, Operations Coordinator in the Office of School Development, to confirm compliance and complete a brief training on our scholarship enrollment system. Elizabeth can be reached via email at EWatson@stepupforstudents.org or via phone at 813-402-0162.
